British, privately-owned and long-established, our client specialises in the design, tooling, manufacture and complex assembly of niche plastic products, supplying multiple sectors including medical devices and electronics. They pride themselves on being innovative, with a highly-skilled team focussed on creating value and driving a profitable business. Recent and planned financial investment, including a multi-million pound CAPEX/automation programme, is a clear indication of the desire for further growth and performance in the short and long term.

Due to retirement our client is looking for an Operations Director to evolve their continuous improvement journey, embracing modern techniques and world class standards in the aim of improving quality, cost and delivery. Reporting to the Managing Director, you will lead operations for a circa £25m business over two modern facilities in Oxford and South Wales, fully responsible for production, engineering, supply chain and customer service. Alongside other board members, you will define the culture and environment required to manufacture the next generation of products; develop structures, systems and skills within the workforce of around 130 in readiness to meet and successfully overcome the challenges as they continue to grow. With your proven leadership ability and gravitas you will nurture and coach a team consisting of established managers as well as high-potential, succession-planning individuals.

Who we're looking for?

• A proven track record leading autonomously a large manufacturing operation, with a multi-discipline team, within plastic manufacturing/complex assembly environments. PIM Process knowledge highly desirable.
• Strategic ability, whilst also having a pragmatic/hands-on approach - fitting of an SME.
• Able to work with imperfect information and make good decisions, but also be data-driven when data is available.
• Extensive leadership skills with a history of coaching/developing, and delivering progressive cultural change enhancing employee capability and manufacturing performance.
• Experienced in driving measurable and sustainable site performance improvement through implementation of lean/world class manufacturing techniques.
