Our client is a subsidiary of an industry leading group with a global presence, manufacturing and distributing specialist metals products around the world. With a turnover of circa £20m, the UK business is highly successful and demand for its products continues to be high as the economy recovers. With exciting projects in the pipeline supplying into new and diverse sectors, they have ambitious growth plans for the future.

The Role

A newly created role, our client is seeking a Commercial Manager to support the Managing Director and lead the UK sales operation based in the Walsall. With recent investment in state-of-the-art production equipment and reconfigured warehouses, this is an opportune time to be joining the business. You will bring significant experience, drive and determination to the role ensuring the continuing growth and success of the business.

Responsibilities

You will:

  • Have oversight for commercial activity, customer relationships and management of the sales office.
  • Lead customer sales to ensure a best in class, quality service to a demanding customer base, and seek new relationships.
  • Provide development and leadership for a small but capable commercial team, driving activity and performance.
  • Lead pricing and margin analysis.
  • Deliver more sophisticated sales analysis and planning, with leadership of IT and systems development (likely to include implementation of a new sales platform in the near future).

Person Specification

Our client’s business is primarily a selling operation (with a growing precision engineering/component manufacturing business) so being at home with the pace, volatility and customer expectations in the metals supply chain is vital. 

The successful candidate will be a customer/account management focussed Sales Manager or Commercial Manager with the following attributes:

  • Experience of leading sales teams in a fast-paced environment, ideally in metals distribution or precision engineering (machining, cutting, bending/forming etc).
  • Strong sales IT Systems capability.
  • Hands-on whilst being able to think/act strategically.
  • Strong influencing, negotiation & communication skills
  • Excellent organisational and project-management skills.

Additional Details

You will need to live within a reasonable commuting range of Walsall.

An excellent base salary of circa £45-50,000 + car + lucrative bonus is on offer, with the strong potential for career progression in the future.
